Technical Assessment: Successes and Insights

Knowing What's Needed to Keep an F-16 in the Air.
The F-16s in the U.S. and foreign air forces come in dozens of variations. Efficiently maintaining the support information needed to keep each F-16 active is made possible by a relational Oracle database. MCR designed, constructed, and maintains this database. What used to take as many as 500 man-hours now takes less than five minutes.

Selecting the Right Technology
To ensure the safety of commercial airliners in the Gulf of Mexico, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) needs an inexpensive and reliable means of watching airplanes as they cross the hundreds of miles of empty Gulf water. An FAA-industry group had identified a number of available surveillance technologies, but the group did not know how to turn these technologies into FAA solutions. An MCR team used its knowledge of FAA capabilities and infrastructure to flesh out solutions based on three proposed technologies, then calculated the costs of each of those solutions. As a result, an FAA team was able to propose affordable solutions to its management.

Tracking U.S. Trade
Border traffic had increased to the point where the old computer systems that kept track of people, vehicles, and products that cross the border were overloaded. Before Customs program manager could hire a contractor to create a new updated system, they needed a realistic idea of the functionality required and the money necessary to get that functionality. MCR developed a detailed manloaded schedule and an independent cost estimate that will allow the program manager to properly fund the needed level of effort.
